MSAM 2026 Excellent Young Scientist Award

Nomination duration: April 20 – June 20, 2026

Introduction:
The Excellent Young Scientist Award grants the most excellent young researchers in the fields of Material Strength and Applied Mechanics all over the world. The MSAM 2026 Excellent Young Scientist Award is given in both areas (Material Strength or Applied Mechanics), and consists of a cash prize of 500 USD, a certificate and a plaque.

Eligibility:
1. The award is open to PhD holders under the age of 40 who have conducted innovative and impactful research with a positive global influence.
2. The applicants currently hold an independent academic position or are a senior researcher in an Industry or Government research institute, have published significant papers in their field, and have actively participated in or led pertinent research projects.
3. The applicants must register and attend the conference.

Requirements:
1. A complete resume and a concise biography (not exceeding 400 words) are required, showcasing the candidate's career achievements and contributions to their field.
2. Submission of five or more representative research papers is essential. These papers should highlight the candidate's research excellence and contributions to their area of expertise.
3. Each candidate must be nominated by 1~2 senior researchers, supported by signed recommendation letters, verifying that the nominees are recognized by their peers for their achievements.

Selection:
The applicants will be evaluated by the committee of MSAM Conference, and two awardees will be selected in the field of Material Strength or Applied Mechanics.
The award winners will be announced during the conference.

Nominations open to the community with no discrimination for region or gender and should be sent to the conference secretary Kelly Feng via msam@msamconf.org.

 Best Oral Presentation Awards

During the conference, one Best Oral Presentation in EACH session will be selected based on the ranking of votes. The winner will be announced and awarded during the awarding banquet.
The awards consist of a certificate and free registration for the next MSAM conference.

Selection Procedure
  • An assessment sheet will be delivered to listeners before the session starts.
  • When the session finishes, each listener is required to fill the sheet (he/she can vote for two excellent presentations) and return it to the Session Chair.
  • The Session Chair will count the votes and select one best oral presentation with more votes. If there is a tie, the Session Chair will make the final decision.

 Best Poster Presentation Awards

Best Poster Presentation(s) will be selected during the conference (selection ratio: 1 in 10). Judges (who has no conflict of interests with the presenters) will be invited by the Conference Chair to evaluate the posters.
The award consists of a certificate and free registration for the next MSAM Conference.
The winner will be announced and awarded during the awarding banquet.

Selection Procedure
  • About 10 judges will be invited by the Conference General Chair to review the posters;
  • 2 red stickers and 2 green stickers will be provided to the judges. The red sticker stands for "Research Quality" with a value of 2 points; the green sticker stands for "Presentation Skill and Design" with a value of 1 point;
  • Each judge will give the stickers to the poster which he/she thinks is high quality or well design and good presentation;
  • The Chair will count the points from each poster and select the best poster(s) with more points. If there is a tie, the one with more red (Research Quality) stickers wins; if there is still a tie, the Chair will make the final decision.
